January & February Monday After-School Rides 2025

Our after-school program is for riders ages 8-14 and we will be hosting group rides on Mondays in November and December and we hope that you can join us.

These rides are all about having fun and exploring local routes and trails while we develop and refine our mountain biking, and traffic safety skill sets. Our programs are non-competitive with a focus on progression and we split up our groups based on ability. Our after-school rides are currently booked in two-month blocks and we host these through the school year. PLEASE READ THIS PAGE BEFORE REGISTERING OR WAIT-LISTING.

How to Register for These Rides:

At the top of this page is a link to our registration forms.

PLEASE READ BELOW BEFORE REGISTERING OR WAIT-LISTING

Our goal is to create stable cohesive groups of riders based on the participant's ability to help ensure that every rider has a positive experience. To accomplish this, we need to do our best to accurately assess each rider's ability in advance so that all participants in each group ride at a similar enough level. As an example, if you are signing up with friends that want to ride together and one rider is Intermediate and the other rider is Advanced Intermediate, the stronger rider would need to sign up for the Intermediate Group.

  • Below is an outline of how we assess rider ability. We are only as fast as our slowest friend so If you are unsure of your rider's ability or have any questions or concerns, please contact us before registering.

  •  If you do register for a group that is beyond your rider's ability we can shift them to the appropriate group as long as they are riding at a Novice level. Once we see everyone riding together we balance the groups as necessary which is mostly determined by each rider's effective riding/climbing pace.  As riders progress they are able to shift up to other groups.

IMPORTANT: Novice riders do not need prior mountain biking experience but they must already be comfortable riding a bike. Participants must have the ability to start, stop, turn, and ride in a controlled manner for 3-6 miles. If your child has recently learned to ride and/or is struggling with the basics, they are not yet ready for these rides. Please contact us with any questions or concerns before registering, especially if you are unsure of your participants riding ability.

Novice Riders: Novice riders are already comfortable controlling their bikes with the ability to start, stop, turn, and ride in a controlled manner for 3-6 miles, climbing up and down moderate hills without constant breaks. Example of a Novice Ride: Slowly riding the Shoreline Trail at China Camp without constantly stopping for breaks. Riding from Downtown Mill Valley to Sausalito with minimal breaks.

Intermediate Riders: Intermediate riders are already confident in controlling their bikes up and down hills, slowly climbing moderate hills without constant breaks, and can comfortably ride for 6-10 miles on dirt. Example of an Intermediate Ride: Slowly riding up the Old Railroad Grade from its start in Mill Valley to West Point Inn without walking and a few stops for breaks.

Advanced Intermediate: Advanced Intermediate Riders can confidently ride their bikes on moderate technical terrain, steadily climbing bigger hills with a few breaks, and able to comfortably ride for 10-15 miles on dirt. Examples of an Advanced Intermediate Ride: Steadily riding up the Old Railroad Grade from its start in Mill Valley to East Peak. Steadily riding the Bay View China Camp loop or Slowly riding Camp Tamarancho.

Advanced Riders: Advanced Riders are confidently riding their bikes on technical terrain, energetically climbing bigger hills with very few breaks, and able to comfortably ride for 15-20 miles on dirt. Examples of Advanced Rides: Energetically riding up the Old Railroad Grade from its start in Mill Valley to West Point Inn and then onto Coastal View trail to Muir Beach and then up Middle Green Gulch trail or Diaz Ridge. Steadily riding the Camp Tamarancho loop would be an Advanced Ride.
